What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical treatment that has revolutionized the medical industry, making it an effective and groundbreaking solution for wound healing, facelifts, treatment of sports injuries, and more. It also happens to be one of the most effective, clinically-proven, and natural treatments for hair loss and thinning hair. To understand PRP hair restoration, let’s look at how PRP works.

PRP is short for “platelet-rich plasma,” a natural component of human blood with a high concentration of platelets. These platelets are crucial for tissue damage repair in various cells because they contain growth factors, one of the most important influences of tissue repair. When injected into different parts of your body, including your scalp, the platelets release growth factors that stimulate wound healing or hair follicle growth.

What are the benefits of PRP hair restoration?

  • Nonsurgical procedure
  • Autologous procedure, i.e., the substance is derived from the patient’s body
  • minimal pain and discomfort
  • No scarring or damage
  • Multiple injections can be delivered in the same spot
  • Concludes within an hour
  • No downtime or recovery period
  • Long-lasting results that last for years
  • Stimulates natural hair growth

What can I expect from the PRP hair restoration procedure?

In a private consultation, we will examine your scalp and discuss your expectations in order to curate the most ideal and tailored treatment plan for your PRP injections.

We will draw blood from your arm in a process similar to a routine blood sample for diagnostics. That blood sample is then run through a centrifuge machine, a device that rapidly rotates and generates centrifugal force to isolate the platelet-poor plasma from the platelet-rich plasma.

After preparing the PRP, we will administer local anesthesia to the treatment regions to ensure a painless procedure. The provider will inject several doses of PRP into strategically-chosen locations into your scalp, targeting regions with weak hair follicles.

Depending on the number of treatment areas and cosmetic expectations, the entire procedure should conclude in 30 minutes to an hour. You may need around three treatments between 6-weeks intervals, followed by maintenance treatments once or twice a year, depending on the doctor’s recommendations.

What is recovery from PRP hair restoration like?

PRP hair restoration doesn’t involve any downtime — you can even drive yourself home after the procedure. You can start washing your hair and scalp immediately after the procedure, but you should expect a little discomfort for a day or two. You may notice a little swelling on your scalp, which should recede in a few days, and you can resume all daily activities once the swelling has gone down. You won’t have to take any time off work.

Am I a suitable candidate for PRP hair restoration?

You’re a suitable candidate if you’re suffering from hair loss, including bald spots, thinning hair, or receding hairline. As an autologous procedure, PRP hair restoration is safe for everyone — however, we will examine your medical history to determine if you display any contraindications for PRP. PRP hair restoration is most effective in the early stages of hair loss, so be sure to contact us as soon as you become aware of the problem.
